Do I still have a shot - Current junior studying finance at Georgetown

So I am a junior currently studying finance at Georgetown. I have a 3.8 and good internships but none that are finance related. I wanted to know if any boutiques, or any banks at all, are still recruiting for summer positions. Obviously I am a late bloomer and should have gotten on this sooner. Despite that, any advice?

Start sending out e-mails and cold calling. I was in the same position and got my SA offer at a tech-focused boutique a few days ago. Responses to e-mails won't always be warm, but as many on WSO have said, if you had to send 200 e-mails, and get rejected 199 times just to have the 200th come through, you'd do it without a second thought if you really want this.

I'm also in a situation where I should start cold-emailing. If you could answer a few questions I have I'd really appreciate it, and it will help the OP too. Did you include your resume in the first email? How did you pick who to email at each boutique, or did you just email HR? Did you explain your situation and skills and ask if they had any positions in the first email, or did you try to build a relationship with the person first?

Thanks!

I'm going to write up a post for WSO about landing my SA offer (I have a pretty unconventional background), but here is the template I used for e-mails:

Dear Mr/Ms ___________,

I hope this message finds you well.

I realize that you must be very busy, and thank you in advance for your time. My name is XXXXXXX, I am a [insert academic background here]. I am interested in building a career in M&A investment banking [or whatever] upon finishing at XXXX, and am wondering how I could best position myself for a summer analyst position with your firm in the upcoming months. I am eager for the opportunity to learn the business and welcome any advice that you might have with respect to [this firm] or the industry at-large. I've attached a copy of my resume for your review.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Warm regards, Your Name Here [email protected] 123.456.7890

Sent my resume in the first message of every e-mail. I generally picked MDs that went to my school or had an affiliation with it in some manner (target).

Hope this helps y'all.

I was lucky enough to land something very recently as well for the summer, having failed through the traditional methods likely as a result of my unconventional background. If you are wondering about trying to figure out places to approach, you can do searches on FactSet for banks or PE or HF in your area and just start hitting them in order which is kind of what I did.

If you don't have FactSet post or shoot me a PM of what you are looking for and where and I'll send you an excel with the businesses to hit up.

Kind of what I did was starting with trying to find alums on the website that went to my school on the businesses and sending out to them first, then doing the cold emails, but the alum was how I landed my summer job. You may not have time to do that much research so you may want to create a cover letter for each type of business you are trying to enter so that you can make it easier to begin the process.

I can't say whether or not this is the best method, this is just what worked for me when the conventional applications didn't work, and it's too late for those at this point so you gotta hit the HR emails and such.
