Echoing what the other commentators have written, the only guy I knew that comes to memory now who had a dog in IB was a senior associate. He was married. His wife worked in HR at a F500. Every now and then he said he would have to leave the office for an hour or two to walk his dog but it was fine from my perspective as a junior colleague to him. I don’t think the senior folks cared.

I know this has already been said but just want to underscore this for anyone considering - do not get a dog unless you have a spouse. I’m married and my wife works normal hours, so she takes our dog out. Even then it’s a lot to handle. I take him out first thing in the morning before I leave (so you have to plan your mornings to wake up earlier - not fun to do as an analyst). She takes him out in the middle of the day then again just before the sun sets (call it 8 PM in the summer). Then whenever I finally get home, I take him out again. Now think about how occasionally you’ll have all-nighters or work until at least like 4 AM. That’s 8 hours without your dog getting to go out. And that’s with me having help from my wife throughout the day, and someone to play with him in the evening. If you work in IB and don’t have a spouse you’re talking 16-24 hours without your dog going out, and it’s just sitting there by itself that entire time. DO NOT do that to a dog. Not to mention if you do leave early to take your dog out, you could develop a frustrating relationship with your deal teams. Wait until you have a spouse or a normal job to get one.

Every animal beside humans are food. We’ve become so cucked as a society that we can’t eat dogs anymore like we’ve been doing for thousands of years. We should be hunting and killing dogs, not dressing them up in sweaters and letting them shit all over our apartments
