Earliest you can get fired

First-year analyst, been on the desk around 14 weeks. Team is pretty sweaty and busy, and I was getting work early on, but I’ve had basically nothing to do for the past couple of weeks while everyone else seems slammed.

In my opinion, my performance has been okay so far. Still learning, obviously, but I didn’t think things were going badly. Now I’m starting to worry that not getting staffed is a sign I’m getting fired.

Has anyone experienced this early on? Is this normal staffing weirdness, or something I should be concerned about?

Even if you’re shit, pretty unlikely you get fired before 2 years. Let’s say you’re absolute dogshit - most likely scenario is lower middle bucket bonus after year 1, followed by no A2A promote after year 2.

Unless you are at a struggling firm like UBS or do something criminal, you likely won't get fired as an analyst. At worst, they will put you on all the worst staffing and give you bottom bucket or $0 bonus.
