Easy to be antisocial in IB

I want to get others take on this. With hybrid/remote work, I’ve found IB has really made me antisocial. I work in a sweaty group so when Friday comes, I just want to chill and catch up on sleep. On Saturday, it’s much less stressful if I can relax, hit the gym, get a haircut, grocery shop, meal prep, etc. instead of sleep half of the day because I went out Friday night. And there’s no guarantee there won’t be Saturday work.

I also live in a city where I didn’t know anyone moving in. I made a group of friends during training but found it difficult to maintain closeness because I really can only go out 1-2 nights a week max and when the opportunity comes I often don’t want to for the reasons mentioned.

overall, I feel like this has been better for my health, fitness, savings, stress/anxiety, but has also led to a little bit of loneliness, repetition, depression even.

On top of this, the social interaction I crave is hard to get from work because we’re remote.

curious to get others’ thoughts and how you strike a balance

Wasn't the most extroverted social person anyways, but after a long week of work and (hopefully) having the Saturday off, sometimes I'd rather use that Friday night or Saturday to bum around, catch up on sleep or just do something else thats more chill that won't leave me even more tired going into the next long work week. It's tough because in college and before, having a "regular" weekend meant I could easily go out Friday or Saturday and still have Sunday as a lazy day, but now the weekend is really just Friday night and Saturday so its hard to do both and I'll take the sleep, gym time and recovery over ruining my physical health even more on my day off.

A friend of mine once told me that when you move to a new city (or anywhere without a ton of friends), you’re going to need to be a bit unhealthy at the start. I’m not saying I agree with it, but most social activities involve going to a bar. My advice is a to go hang out with the group of friends on a Saturday afternoon or go on Friday night after the gym; just keep it light on the booze and don’t stay out until 3am. I understand that you just want to catch up on sleep and relax, but you’re going to have to sacrifice a bit of that for some social activities.
