EB $ Deal Value Rankings 1H 2021
https://www.factset.com/hubfs/mergerstat_em/month…
Strictly for informative purposes, not tryna start a new rankings thread. Here is how the current elite boutiques are performing in terms of Deal Value in 1H 2021. And yes, bigger firms will typically have more and larger deals given more offices + employees + areas of coverage.
($ millions) 1. Evercore $188,339 (63) 2. Centerview $112,339 (36) 3. PJT $103,161 (21) 4. PWP $95,506 (32) 5. Lazard $75,305 (53) 6. Moelis $73,155 (68)
These look like the actual rankings!! Crazy impressive from 2-4 as EVR is much larger and gets a bit of an unfair advantage from that. 2-4 analyst class size is ~20 kids max. EVR analyst class size is 40+
Yea it’s nuts how CVP/PJT/PWP are putting up those numbers and are such lean firms. That’s why they pay the big bucks
A couple things...
1) As said above, Evercore is substantially larger than CVP/PJT and I imagine deal value per MD or IB employee would put them much lower on the list. Regardless, they’re impressive.
2) While deal value is a decent proxy, what really matters are fees. Looking up public fees I know, on average, CVP/PJT command a higher % fee based on deal value than peers, which means more money to splash around for perks and comp.
Finally, you forgot to add Gugg. Pls fix, thx.
Agree 100% - you can prop up your league table rankings by doing fairness opinions for a few blockbuster deals while only pulling in a couple million in fixed fees. $$$ to the firm is the most important thing at the end of the day - firms obviously wont disclose this but for the publicly-traded independent advisory firms, can probably calculate a proxy based on their disclosure.
Yeah league tables are a HUGE scam
Most of the above are publicly traded, so you can actually calculate IB revenue per IB MD and/or IB employee. Only one that isn’t public is CVP, but there was a WSJ out last year saying they pulled in ~$1.3bn with ~400 total employees (this includes back office, IT, admins, etc.).
It says Q had $13B in transactions, dats low.....
This is false information
Y?
Allen hit a whale is why, one year is kind of not super interesting; show me the 5 year average! Gugg is killer but I’m suspicious of those mandates lolz
Allen & Guggenheim actually did better than PWP & Moelis & Lazard, not sure why they’re excluded here
