Ending Gifts?
Interning off cycle at a LMM SS fund with a team of about 10 people — 2 Cofounders, 5 VPs/Associates, and 3 Analysts. Really enjoyed my time with the group and ending internship in a week or two from now. I want to leave on a great note / show my appreciation for the team and was planning to give a gift. Any ideas? TY in advance!!
Bump
Just bring donuts to the office and call it a day
.
When I was an intern one of the VPs went on vacation and told me to keep the plant on his desk alive. The next day I proceeded to overwater it and kill it. I bought him a cactus at the end of the internship to make up for it and he thought that was hilarious; still on his desk today.
Try and think of something fun and personalized and don't buy anything expensive (it will only make people uncomfortable)
.
gift is a little risky of being weird. a handwritten note to each team member is the way to go. a very under used form of communication and always appreciated
.
submariner for everyone on the team would sure make everyone happy
fuck a donut
A farewell drinks, where you pick up most of the tab, is always appreciated
If costs start to spiral, some of the other guys should chip-in (I'd hope!) - probably looking at around $1,000
Failing that, taking everyone out to lunch / dinner (time providing) also goes down well
If there's anyone in the team you've worked with particularly closely, you can get them something in addition: cufflinks are always a nice touch, especially if they reflect something about you / your relationship with them (e.g. played golf together - get some nice golf themed links)
If people aren't keen on the lunch / dinner or drinks idea, doughnuts in the office is always nice - make sure to also extend a doughnut invite to the secretaries / support staff you've also dealt with
Someone has mentioned hand-written notes - I think this is a nice touch, providing you keep them short and sweet (bit OTT in my opinion to pen a full letter to each and every member of the team, and even with a small note you can include your contact information as well)
Further to this, a brief but memorable (read: light-hearted and funny) email sending your thanks also goes down well
The key here is to do something sincere and friendly, while keeping it formal - I wouldn't do everything I've listed above, but instead cherry pick a few
Do everything and you'll come across a little over-eager and needy
.
Depends on what the culture of the team is. Where I interned the interns generally bring in pastries at the end of the internship.
