Equities Internship - Have been put on notice
So, here goes.
I recently got a long term internship at a European investment bank and obviously I was very excited by the fact. I've been there a month now, and as of yesterday I was put on notice. The head of HR and my dept manager were not pleased with me missing 4 days of work in my first month. I did not want to miss these days at all but had no choice due to a chest infection. So as of yesterday, they put me on one month's notice with my last day due to be at the end of October.
However, they also offered an alternative, and in the meeting they said that despite the fact they've put me on notice, if they see an improvement in my attendance/commitment they will reconsider their decision. The quote from the letter confirming my notice says:
'If during this next month we see a marked improvement in your commitment towards your position with us then we are happy to reconsider the situation. However, if there is no marked improvement then your last day of employment will be 30th October 2018.'
My question is, do you think they are being sincere when they say this?
Did you give them your doctor's medical note? If this is in the US and they end up letting you go, I think you'll be able to sue the bank if this is the only reason why they are letting you go.
TBH, I wouldn't focus on that. I would focus on gtfo of there as it seems like a really shitty place to be at.
