Equity Research Associate Moving to Coverage Banking

I’m toying with the idea of moving to my bank’s industry coverage group doing the same sector. I’ve been in research for two years, out of college for 4 years, have a CFA.

My concerns in moving to banking really are just around the lifestyle change, I guess.

My concerns in staying in research are that my boss isn’t going anywhere and it would take forever to earn coverage. I’m also not entirely sure that I’m obsessed enough with stocks to be in the buy side. If this perspective is off-base, please correct me, but I see picking stocks as basically participating in a game for a living. You never really step back and observe a change that you effected or thing that you built.

Anyway, any coverage bankers or people who moved out of research want to share their experience it would be appreciated.
