European candidates mog UK/US candidates
Requirements:
- Undergraduate in finance or business (can't go study Historical Empowerment at the University of Warwick and have a shot at working in finance - remember, this is Europe ma'am, not the degeneracy you see in UK)
- Then you need to do a Master's or you're a joke in the eyes of the recruiters. Be ready to drop 30k/EUR on it or again you're a joke in the eyes of the recruiters (in economies with an average monthly salary of 1.5k where housing prices crush your fucking balls).
- Ideally during steps 1-2 you also need to have 3-4 relevant internships under your belt to be competitive for an FT offer. Mind you no one gives as many fucks about your behavioral fit in interviews. You will be bombarded with technical questions before you can even say Hi to the Associate.
And then, ONLY THEN, after 5 years of education, 1-2 years of experience across internships and off-cycles being paid peanuts, and speaking 3 foreign languages, you're ready. You finally deserve an offer at the one and only: NOMURA/BNP/RBC!
Congrats!
Contrast this to:
A) The clueless US frat candidate networking himself into banking (much easier and I'll take this any day instead of letting a Stacy with a BA Historical Empowerment at Warwick to assess my fit), or
B) The average UK candidate from Psychology taking the bus downtown (30 min. ride) for a Spring Week (offered because the recruiters were impressed with his customer service skills at Nando's), which then fast tracks him for a SA offer and then also for a FT offer if he's not a complete retard (the UK candidate just needs to NOT be a complete fucking dumbass and he's in).
So yeah, spare me the talk that Euros "steal" opportunities in LDN because we want it and we did more than you.
Mind you that you could do the same thing that many Euros do, that is move to UK for better opportunities , and probably then you might understand the grind of some Euros pursuing opportunities across 2-3 jurisdictions to put in their CV (yes, it's much harder than commuting by bus downtown for the Spring Week, you fucking prick).
But wait, you want to cover Europe M&A from an UK's bank and YOU DON'T SPEAK ANY OTHER LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH!?!?! YOU'RE A FUCKING JOKE. STFU.
what’s the point here exactly?
Europeans never breaking the Spotted Ox Hostel reputation lol
I speak 1 language (English, the only language that isn’t nonsense) and did one degree and I MONEY MOG europoors. My bonus is bigger than your annual total comp. And it’s called soccer not football.
So your first year bonus is bigger than £110k ($150k)? Ok got it
“(offered because the recruiters were impressed with his customer service skills at Nando's), which then fast tracks him for a SA offer and then also for a FT offer”
I think you missed the point: sure, you did 3-4 internships in Europe that paid peanuts... great! That's not a problem we can solve though, and it's unfortunate that it isn't uniform across all geographies.
That doesn't then grant the right to marginalise the UK students (who, by the way, probably had no control growing up over where they were living or where they were born) to then put them out of the FT recruiting process in their own city.
It turns less into a meritocracy and rather into a back-scratching exercise that does nothing meritocratically given the job is super straight forward to learn. It's as if to say "hey, we did 4 internships to get here, I will make sure the other UK student doesn't get a sniff because she's just done Economics and a Women's Spring Week at Nomura, comme c'est ridicule!"
Who’s marginalising the Uk students? You think all these Europeans were born and raised in Paris/Frankfurt/Milanf and got these internships easily? No. They studied and worked for them. No one has a right to a job, be that Brits, the French, the Germans or the Italians. Just because most jobs are kn London doesn’t mean that some geography grad from Manchester or Nottingham is the best candidate because they have “potential”. Proven experience is better than potential. And no one is stopping that student from applying for spring weeks, summers and grads. Nothing at all. It’s also not a meritocracy to just pick the local kids with no relevent experience or knowledge about the role purely because they’re local and show some potential. Respectfully a Brit tired of other people making excuses for why something doesn’t work out for them. Own your successes, own your failures.
But it goes back to the original point about taking a student from the UK and putting them through a business school in France / Italy / Germany, which they would have to save up for ~3 years on a minimum wage job to even secure a loan to study there, in order to make it accessible for a UK student to compete on-par.
Whereas if I wanted to work in Madrid, the first thing they are going to check is if I went to IE or ESADE and am natively Spanish, which I'm not and then flat out reject me. It's an asymmetrical risk/reward system that is set up only one-way.
