Evercore Interview Question - Investment Banking

Originally scheduled to be a in-person coffee chat (Evercore) but as I'm sure most of you can guess by now, it had to be transitioned over to a phone call. It went well and he even recommended that I study the financial crisis of 2008 (Note: the chat was completely behavioral in nature and he recounted his experience while interviewing with firm highlighting the aforementioned suggestion as a common question that is asked) in the event of a potential interview with the firm in the future. How would you guys explain what caused the 2008 financial crisis and what policies would prevent an event like this from reoccurring? Thank you in advance.

I'm aware but hearing insight from others is another helpful way of bolstering the essence of my answer. Nonetheless, I appreciate your input. Thank you.

Listen to the MIB podcast with Danielle DiMartino. The GFC was a very complicated event. Then listen to Ben Bernanke’s episode on: “The Aftermath of the Financial Crisis”. This will give you a good foundation. There’s plenty of editorials out there. A lot of the policies implemented since such as capital buffers on banks, greater reporting by banks, restrictions on trading, are the aftermath of the GFC.
