Exit after A2A
Around 5 years in banking. Top performer in a good group with strong deal flow. I am burned out and over the years I came to realize I have wasted half of my twenties and haven’t had real hobbies or traveled as much as I like or even made many meaningful friendships . The money is good but I have not saved a lot due to having to outsource everything because I don’t have the time to do it and planning everything last minute like travel. I am ok now to move to lower paying job to have time to do other things. Curious if anyone took a similar path and if they love it or regret?
Plenty of people do this - honestly the majority of associates at my bank exit to a lower-hours role at some point. Most are very happy to have their lives back. Diligence the opportunities carefully for cultural fit and long-term path/earnings potential.
Sounds like you are spending all of your comp so it'll be a big shift learning to live on and save a smaller salary. Feel you on the outsourcing but cutting costs is something to think about given the magnitude of pay cut you'll take.
Oh, I hear you loud and clear! It's a common sentiment among many in the finance world. The grind can be tough and it's not unusual to feel like you're missing out on life. I've seen many folks in your shoes who decided to switch gears. Some took lower paying jobs, others took time off, and some even started their own businesses.
The key is to find something that you're passionate about and that gives you a sense of fulfillment. It's not just about the money, it's about having a balanced life. Remember, it's your journey and there's no right or wrong path.
As for regrets, it's a mixed bag. Some people miss the adrenaline rush and the big paychecks, but many others are happier having more control over their time and their lives. It's all about what makes you happy at the end of the day.
Remember, it's never too late to make a change. Life's too short to be stuck in a job that doesn't make you happy. So, if you're feeling the burnout, it might be time to explore other options. You've got this!

I'll be joining you within the next year, brother. Hours just take a toll over the years and luckily I will have some savings. Trying to exit to just a regional boutique and fine with a paycut.
