Exit Opportunities from Big Pharma M&A (US BASED)

Hi everyone, I’m currently working on the M&A and Partnerships team at a large pharma company based in the US (think BMS, Novartis, GSK, Roche). I’ve been here for about 3 years and am starting to think about potential exit opportunities if I decide not to stay in pharma long term.

I’m particularly interested in understanding how feasible it would be to move back into healthcare investment banking (at a BB or EB) or into HC PE or VC.

Would really appreciate insights from people who’ve seen or made similar transitions — how realistic is this move, and what would help position me best?

Also in the Big Pharma space. I think the move to HC IB is feasible, but ideally after an MBA to land an MBA Associate role. This would make the transition a bit cleaner and you'll come in having tangible expertise to counter to stereotype of the "useless" MBA Associate. Another option is VC, especially if you've worked on early stage (pre-clinical / Phase I) M&A or licensing deals. HC PE is likely the least feasible given the lack of investment in Specialty Pharma. Not impossible, just less overlap with the type of HC investments PE funds make.
