Feeling Like I wont get anything for recruiting.

The title above states it. I did the rounds of networking resumes/mocks, but I feel nothing will come to fruition. Some places I couldn't get 1 person on the phone, and in other places networking calls were done but I felt like they weren't anything out of the roof.

Hey man don’t be hard on yourself. I went through senior year recruiting, got rejected a bunch of times but finally landed an offer. Remember all it takes is one yes to happen. Another thing is don’t be desperate. Walk into each interview like you already have an offer and you’re looking to see if this opportunity is best for YOU.

Thank you for the kind words. I guess sometimes I feel like recruiting is like college admissions but in the grand scheme of things I have to just realize its a numbers game...

You gotta keep it pushing. Nothing is guaranteed in life, not even your next breath. Don’t waste your time trying to crowdsource sympathy on here. Expand your search to tangentially related fields (big4, Corp fin, S&T, CB etc) and banks you have not considered. If you have not secured something by now, it may not be in your cards for a 2023 FT start. The outlook is not on your side either. That doesn’t mean you can’t recruit later (2024+) especially if you land something that develops similar. Good luck.

You only need to land one offer for the title to change to "I felt like I wouldn't get anything." Good luck!

Stay motivated.

Finance, and Investment Banking as a whole, is an ego-inflated industry. In recruiting, you will be competing with other students equally as good, if not superior to you in technical skill, behavioral skill, and general knowledge.

This can all sound pretty formidable, but the minimum banks ask for, is that you must have confidence. In other words, you have to be confident in yourself first, before other people can be confident in you.

Banks hire people all across the board. Different majors, upbringings, perspectives, and skills. They don't expect all of you to know finance from the get-go. But what you must demonstrate is intellectual curiosity, resilience, and a desire to learn.

  1. Schedule 20+ emails to be sent out every Monday at 8am or 9am, to increase the chances of response.
  1. Try to research past alumni. They're more likely to return emails.
  1. This is more personal to me, but have a prepared set of solid questions to ask them during networking calls. Try to strike a perfect balance between job-related and fun/outside of work-related questions.
  1. Cast a wide net, reach out to as many people as possible, and be persistent.

Wishing you all the best.

I feel exactly the same man.... Recruiting for IB SA 2024 positions rn. I have had 2 interviews so far (one first round, and a superday, just had the superday today). In mock interviews I kill it, but when it comes to the real deal I shit the bed. I have friends with offers and it sucks seeing them since you do not have an offer. As someone said above just be confident and make sure to bond with interviewers. Some people are just a holes and you cannot do anything about it. from someone in the same boat, keep your head up man
