Feeling sick and tired of this

Hi guys, second-year associate here (A2A, so 4 years banking) working in a sweaty group at a BB. Need some advice from y'all. I feel burned out from all the work. Group was a bit chill until they let go of a couple of folks and a bunch quit. So headcount is down and hours are up. I've done tough hours before so nothing new but just feeling tired at this point in life. Consistent 90 hour weeks, can't even step outside on Sunday's, and haven't seen any of my friends in the past 4 weeks. Feel so tempted to just straight up quit. I'd love a chill 9-5 job with no stress. Don't even care about the base cut. Any words of advice please?

Former A2A who just left, but was basically in your shoes

  1. Don't quit without anything lined up, especially in this weird job market with all this AI overhang. As tempting as it is to fuck off, don't put yourself under financial and career pressure if you don't need to. If you've saved up 200k+ mostly liquid, then go for it if you really want, but I personally wouldn't risk the uncertainty. If you start having serious health problems, then by all means, fuck your job and dip.
  2. Incrementally give less effort. Begin by carving out 5 minutes every hour to just zone out. What are they going to do about it? Then carve out 10 minutes every hour. Punt all your shit to the analysts. Throw your analysts under the bus if they keep fucking up and cc your VP.
  3. Find something small to keep you grounded. A small habit like getting 10 minutes of sunlight in the mornings, or reading a book, even if it's 5 pages at a time. Doesn't have to be elaborate, but consistency is key. This needs to be something that you can truly focus on and take your mind off work for.
  4. "This too shall pass"
  5. Understand that you choose to care about doing a good job and fulfilling expectations. What about the morons and deadweight in your group who actively contribute to your workload and take money out of your pocket by being useless, do they care? If they don't, why should you care?

Look for jobs on the side and pull the trigger. Your experience is quite universal, so you are not alone.
