Female bankers doing brand deals on TikTok

An associate in the BofA consumer retail IB team, has posted several brand deals on her TikTok . She’s posted “gifted” (or paid?) posts for this performance activewear brand, and she also just posted a paid partnership with a moving services company on TikTok.

I know GS is notoriously strict with social media and brand deals, but how are other banks going about it especially when it comes to brand deals? Are these bankers running this by compliance at all, or just risking their career for side hustle cash and some internet fame?

In this case, doesn’t this create conflicts of interest especially since they're on the consumer retail team?

She is a DEI. Nobody will hold her accountable, in fact, MDs will commend for this.

Pulled directly from her comments on one of her videos:

Q: Is it a requirement to work until midnight? It can't wait until the next day, you would get in trouble?

A: No it's up to your discretion depending on workflow and deadlines! But all juniors are typically online until at least midnight bc emails are still coming in.

So she admits that working until midnight is completely optional, yet people in this industry deny the clear inequality of expectations and accountability between men and women.

Nobody except the MD and HR want them there and they too are keen because they have DEI (gender) quotas to meet which dictate bonuses. It’s painfully obvious to anyone in the industry that the bar is lower for them and anyone who brings it up is framed a misogynist. I personally don’t want them on my teams due to low productivity and tantrums. I can get much more out of male juniors without issues. Their belligerent attitude at work is justified through eternal victimhood which is rather unsubstantiated. Yeah right, this white/asian becky from working class is oppressed. What a sh^t show built on institutional and cultural lies.

Clients use social media too. Imagine if you’re scrolling though and see one of the bankers on your deal making someone “Day in my Life as an Investment Banker in NYC” video.

Generally think it’s fine for people to have their own public Tiktok if it’s videos of them baking cookies or something but when you’re making content about IB or your bank you rightfully deserve scrutiny.

not at BofA or familiar with any of this but from an outside in perspective:

-We have male associates at BofA getting overworked to literal death with 120 hour weeks.

-On the other hand, we have female associates at BofA filming day in the life videos where they make cute little Kale salads and do influencer brand deals.

Just WTF

All the casualties in IB have been male juniors so far. No to a single female junior. Male juniors are overworked and underpaid compared to them.

i left the industry because the disparate expectations for male and female analysts and associates in my group were too much. The same level of workload/behavior/attitude that would get a male analyst fired gets a female analyst promoted.

I love that finally you younger lot are speaking up about it. No need to suck up and buy into their eternal victimhood. Whenever I tried raising these issues, they tried framing me as misogynist. Issue is MD / D comp is tied to gender targets and they will do whatever to keep women in the team as long as they do bare minimum. Women are aware and cross corporate boundaries which would get men fired promptly.

Male junior investment bankers effectively get paid much less than their female counterparts.

If men are getting the same base and roughly the same bonus, but working 20-30% more every week vs women, how is this not discrimination?

literally the case in my group

To make it worse, all women in the team are promised at least a mid-bucket as long as they do just enough because HR and MD wants to retain them

I'm content with sofset being real about knowing how hard ib was goign to be - her best friend's dad is ex ceo of hbo and her school was super expensive so a lot of support cushion

Controversial

Why are people on this site about what other people are doing with their lives? Its clear jealously good for her shes probably going to be able to turn it into a full time thing these influencers make real money I have 2 friends that are doing it full time and are making 200-400k and I have one friend that is obviously a anomaly but he makes 8 figs a year and hes 25. Anyways good for her.

Yeah you’re right. What’s funny is most people can’t accept your point but overall it’s fun to watch people expose their deepest insecurities and project on these threads man.

I think it’s a general question of what compensated opportunities bankers can take outside of work especially since FINRA is extremely strict with OBA and conflict of interest is a legitimate concern. GS made it clear they’re against it, but other banks less so. I think this is an interesting discussion to have. If BofA is okay taking on brand deals, good for her.

wtf what kind of content do they make?

She seems to leave the office around 6:30pm and work from home the rest of the night. Is that standard at UBS? IB isn't expected to work in the office in the evening/night?

if you’re a freeloading DEI female analyst/aso, you work in the office from 10:30-6 and “WFH” outside of that but in reality you do no work.

I’m not a big proponent of FaceTime culture but it’s ridiculous how little work some of these women do relative to their male counterparts and still get the same base pay and same or better path to promotion - simply because of their gender

She likely plans on leaving, and this is her "exit" strategy.

I just don't remember ever leaving at that time unless it was a Friday or Saturday. I was an analyst pre-COVID, so I should have phrased my question better, but I was asking if the expectation changed at firms?

No she isn’t. This is the norm at some shops who are still eager on DEI, especially Canadian banks.

I am at a Big 5 Canadian bank and our female juniors are in office from 8:30am to 5pm. Nobody dares to question this behavior. To make it worse our Head of Office is hooking up with one of them. Do you think he will entertain any criticism about their work ethic? He will immediately push out whoever questions their antics.

Yeah me too I feel it will get her to eventually quit her job so she can take more things in the time she would’ve been grinding all day.

This comment section might be the most sexist, racist, and nastiest I’ve ever seen. Nothing wrong with Asian American women / female bankers lol

If you as a man cannot be successful because of “women having rights” then you are not a man. I have not once heard a successful man say that his journey was made tougher because he had to compete against educated women. Grow up

Is this your right to have ~50% seats in hiring and promotions allocated to your gender while you make up 20-30% of the candidate pool? Doesn’t look like equity, more like self-serving equality of outcome.

You need to grow up because at least two generations of women in corporate North America have been spoiled with handouts. About time your victim card expires and we start holding you accountable for the countless favors by corporate DEI daddies, girl-dad allies, and femcels that have taken over BoDs.

It’s a baking account right… honestly bullshit that GS said she couldn’t have both

Ehhhh I mean she must have been pretty smart and good at the job if she was at bofa for 5 years. I agree, prob should not be posting content if at a bigger company, but hey they dont seem to give a shit so doesnt matter i guess lmaoo.

Or she is a DEI Becky that does bare minimum and for obvious reasons won’t be fired unless she quits because MD / HR need to meet those gender KPIs
