I'm a FECON major, as it's called, but I'm only a soph so I haven't actually taken any of the major courses. From what I've read/heard, fecon is almost the same as econ except for a few extra finance classes: fin accting, fin econ, corp fin, etc. Therefore, I'd recommend fecon over econ if you're planning on working on the street. If you're planning to go into academia, the latter might suit you better.

FinEcon is an easy major. Normal econ is an even easier major.

FinEcon used to be Econ-OR. All that changed was the name and that they removed some requirements (Comp Sci) i.e. harder classes. So if you intend to do finance, you should take Financial Economics, Corporate Finance, Financial Accounting, etc. classes anyways. Plus, Financial Econ sounds much better than Econ, Econ-Math, Econ-poli-sci, Econ-philosophy, Econ-Stat, or the now defunct major of Econ-OR...
