Based on the most helpful WSO content, fintech deals are often covered under FIG (Financial Institutions Group) or TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecom) groups, depending on the bank. For fintech, the key hubs are typically San Francisco (SF) and New York (NY), as these cities are major centers for tech and finance.

  • San Francisco (SF): Known for its tech focus, many banks with strong tech coverage have fintech expertise here. SF is a hotspot for fintech due to its proximity to Silicon Valley.
  • New York (NY): As the financial capital, NY also has significant fintech activity, especially for firms with a financial services slant.
  • Los Angeles (LA): While not as prominent as SF or NY, LA has some tech banking presence, but fintech coverage is less concentrated here.

Banks with strong fintech deal flow include Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Qatalyst, and Credit Suisse. Boutique banks with a tech focus, like FT Partners, are also highly regarded in fintech. If you're looking to lateral, targeting SF or NY offices of these banks would likely provide the best opportunities.
