For those that have taken the GMAT

Hey guys,

I'm going to take the GMAT this summer. I'm just wondering about the time commitment you put into studying, the resources you used, and what score you got.

I have about 2 months and I'm starting with the Official Guide...

Thanks

To be honest, I studied very little and got a 740. I did a few computer based practice tests that came on the CD Rom of a study program. Once you get familiar with the style of questions, you just know it or you don't, in my opinion. The benefit of studying for me was just remembering all the worthless things I had forgot (i.e.- formula for volume of cone, etc.).

Might as well study a lot though. You will probably start to get a feel for when you are just spinning your wheels.

I also studied very little and got a 770. Basically, I checked into a hotel next to the test center the night before (who wants to deal with traffic on a test day?) and then spent the afternoon/evening reading the princeton review book and then skimming the offical guide. I liked the PR book because it talked more about the thinking behind the questions.

Basically, depending on how much time you have to study, I'd say first study the basic knowledge you need (you should already have learned it, so it should be review). Then, do a bunch of practice problems (this is where the offical guide comes in handy). Finally, the last thing you need to do is remove all distractions for test day.

Good luck.

Thanks guys...

I'm confident in the quant section, it's just the grammar part that I need some serious practice on...

Any of you guys in b-school yet? I'm just trying to get a feel for how I need to do. I know that the average at some top b-shools is about 700.
