FREAKING OUT. Best prep before starting IB FT this summer?
Ok so I landed a full-time investment banking job and I'm a little freaked out as I don't really know anything about it (I also did not previously intern in IB). I don't really want to get into the specifics around how/where/etc. But I pretty much forgot all my technicals since interviewing, which was over a year ago and even then I did not really prep so long and hard. Given that I am coming in FT in just a couple of months I am looking to learn as much as possible and whatever would be an efficient use of time. I mean finance basics, self-practice working on modeling DCFs, LBOs, etc.
Are there any books / online tutorials / etc you would recommend to not just brush up but even just to learn some of these topics for the first time? There is a lot of material out there and the options are a bit overwhelming and I'm just trying to figure out what would be the most helpful in my case. Not looking to spend hundreds of dollars either. I'm pretty nervous and anxious atm and I'm just looking to not fck up once I start.
P.S. I understand the apprenticeship model of IB and you learn most on the job - but when I tell you I know nothing I mean it. If I can ease some of the burden before I start I would like to. Any advice would be appreciated!
Coursera has free guided projects for DCF modeling, you can even earn a certificate after completing it. YouTuber Kenji Explains also has some great resources, or if you want a full on free course Martin Shkreli has a series of valuation practices on his YouTube channel. His valuation course with modeling and analysis though is about 8 parts with each part being several hours long, super insightful though.
If you're at a BB/EB/MM or something in that vain, they typically bring in WSP/BIWS/TTS/etc. for the first few weeks to train you guys. Additionally will have you guys prepped for SIE/63/79 through Knopman Marks or a similar vendor.
If going to some standalone boutique or whatever, then YEMV.
Best of luck.
