Friend reneged on offer...how do I approach the firm

So my friend and I both recently had a superday at the same boutique, and he got the offer. He verbally accepted and then later reneged because he found a better opportunity elsewhere.

My question is, I know I was a backup, and already received a rejection e-mail. What would be the best way to approach this bank and let them know that I'm still interested in the position? Would it be best just to wait to see if the bank contacts me?

Should I mention anything at all about my friend?

Any feedback/stories/help would be appreciated.. Feel free to PM me. Thanks all!

I think now would be a convenient time for you to send a follow-up e-mail stating you really enjoyed meeting the people from the firm and hope one day to find an opportunity with their organization etc... hopefully this will remind them of your candidature and motivate them to get in touch with you with the newly re-available position.

I would not say "I know my buddy reneged etc..."

This. Definitely do not say anything about your friend reneging.

I 100% agree.
