From Reinsurance to IB (FIG)

Hi every one,

I'm a Reinsurance Treaty underwriter with a solid 6 years in the International Reinsurance space. I have exposure to 16+ countries covering EMEA. With a foreign degree (non US), international experience and 3 languages, I was thinking about shifting to IB and I found FIG very interesting from a distance. I'm not very familiar with the IB market but I'm pretty sure that it's manageable in terms of picking up the necessary skills.

My role as a reinsurance underwriter includes:

Risk and client selection: I cover non life lines of business, NAT Cat reinsurance solutions, structured solutions and public sector solutions (natural catastrophes insurance schemes for governments)

Decent exposure to C suite level clients.

Developing and managing client/ broker relationship is within my assigned tasks.

Heavy quant exposure: actuarial and Catastrophe modelers.

Heavy negotiations and strategy involved.

For those who are not familiar with reinsurance, we are basically the suppliers of insurance companies. As an underwriter, I allocate capacity to cover insurance companies (my clients) portfolios from specific risks after careful analysis. I work on the design of the deal, negotiation, setting the terms and the finalization of the agreement. The process involves due diligence, profound analysis and actuarial work.

Would my experience make sense ?

Coming from a different country with the above skill set, would it be possible for me to get in?

How's the work life balance for insurance coverage ?

is it worth ? I'm a chartered P&C underwriter, i'm always happy to jump back to the market if things don't workout.

I appreciate all the feedback!! thanks!!
