FT Analyst Role: BB ECM or PE MM
I converted my summer at a mid-tier BB in the ECM team, (although I could likely network into a different team).
I have now however been offered the chance to work as an analyst at a MM (c.$1bn fund) PE shop, with the chance/aim to progress to an associate position at the end of this.
I figure that overall I will be taking about a 10-15% pay cut by taking the PE offer, but progression into roles with carry is encouraged.
I think I would much prefer the type of work I'd be doing in PE and it would be more useful if my end goal is to run my own business. Aside from the pay cut, other things I understand I need to consider are:
- Training: I will receive training from the same provider for both however the training program is shorter at the PE shop
- Camaraderie: Only about 3-4 other juniors at the shop
- Lack of brand name: If things don't work out it would be better to have the BB on a CV I presume
- Work hours: at the BB the hours weren't so bad, I don't have much of an idea about the hours at this firm though. Given a lot of the investment team are ex-consulting could this mean that hours are less harsh than IB?
If anyone could give me some advice either way I would appreciate it, thank you.
Are you talking about latest fund size = $1bn (mm shop) or total AUM is (1bn?)
