FT Partners Analyst Interviews

I've got an interview with FT Partners coming up in the next couple of weeks. I've heard to expect something pretty technical, anybody have some insight on what to expect? FinTech valuation stuff to look up? Thanks

Yeah I'm from a reputable school but also a bit of a non-target. I'm a senior now and won't be returning to where I interned last summer so working to find something full-time by the time I graduate in ~ 4.5 months, but also hoping to work in tech/VC in SF so FTP is a solid start for that.

With limited connections in banking, and only one summer at a boutique shop FTP is probably about as good a gig as I can land at this point. Not really sure how to get a BB/EB to give me the time of day as things stand.

Either way, I'm familiar with FTP and what to expect working there, just hoping for more insight on interviews, which seems to be generally limited on this site.

From my experience, they asked a good amount of technicals. I would study up on merger model questions, get a strong basis in accounting (deferred revenue), and understand how tech companies operate and some different business models. Also it would be good to know a little more about fintech, and be able to connect why you want to work in the space. They read a lot into your resume, so some questions might be technicals or tougher behaviorals based off of resume information.

Did you get the interview from the online resume drop or through substantial networking? I applied earlier this week but haven't heard back yet

Yeah I had an IB internship last summer and am a senior. I got the interview from networking, they have a resume drop for my school but I applied via a different link. The process seems a little slow, it seems they are expanding fast trying to stay on track with the exploding Fintech industry and are probably slammed

Interview process is pretty standard. - Intro / behavioral (know why banking / why FTP / at least 3 FTP deals) - Technical interview (know accounting cold, details on accruals, EBITDA, etc. valuation methods.) - Brief conversation with the CFO - Superday (Combination of all of the above. Typical superday interview)

Its a great firm with strong deal flow but I would be cautious of its reputation for extremely poor work/life balance.

My interview from last September:

  1. Name one trend in FinTech and why do you think it is hot right now. I named mobile payments and they grilled me on that.

  2. Why banking, why FinTech, and why specifically FT partners.

  3. Technicals. Standard accounting, valuation (DCF, comps) questions but one question about the Gordon Growth model about DCF terminal multiple really threw me off. I think they also asked me about the merger model but I can't be sure.

Thought I interviewed pretty well but got rejection in 3 days. I can't be sure what dinged me but I'd expect it's my answer on why fintech. Make sure you have a well-versed answer to that.

Good luck OP.
