FT Recruiting - End of semester results
Hey guys,
This was a brutal year for recruiting and I was just wondering how everyone did relative to stats/school. This is just for my own curiosity but it would be great to know how others at other schools fared too.
School: Target (Ivy), GPA: 3.5/4.0 in humanities, SA: MM IDB, no return offer First rounds: 7, Superdays: 4, Offers: 1
Ended up accepting with a consulting offer (4 first rounds, 3 superdays, 3 offers). Hoping to get back into finance after MBA.
School- Non-target GPA 3.5 Finance SA- N/A
First round-0 SuperDay-1 Offers- O
Real bad going to a non-target i am looking at unemployment after graduation...
Hang in there dude. Did you put any effort into reaching out to people (not restricted to alums)?
I did reach out to non-alumni, very unresponsive though some did offer to help but in the end I only got one interview because of an alumni who pushed my resume...I am applying any finance job my school posts and hoping something happened and try to work my way into a top MBA , or maybe take a year off and re think the law school route..
School: Target (Ivy) GPA: bad below 3.0/4.0 in humanities SA: BB IBD, no return offer
First rounds OCR (excluding CapMkt, S&T and consulting): 1 Superdays: 0 (almost got it!!!! but they turned me down after 2 weeks) Offers: 1 (BB IBD, see below)
So OCR was long over and I had completely given it up and planned on applying for SA or starting off my career as an associate consultant, and then about 3 weeks ago I got a phone call from HR out of the blue. I went in for my first-round interviews, talked with a bunch of bankers and left the office with a FT offer. I am always the lucky one :) Don't lose hope monkeys!
Wow, you are one lucky sob. Was this through a resume drop? Also...doesn't hurt to have BB IBD on your resume too.
Yes, and I had completely forgotten about it. This bank didn't participate in OCR at my school this fall but had a job posting, so I applied on the off chance that they might review my resume.
This is bullshit
Non-Targets don't have OCR so chances are he/she has already done that...
School: Semi-Target (Public University) GPA: ~4.0 in Math SA: BB IBD; Received FT Offer; Turned it down (Well, technically I reneged)
First Rounds: I think 11 Second Rounds: Invited to 9, although I only went to about 4 Offers: 3 (Informed the 4th that I'd be going elsewhere)
Going the Prop Trading route.
I was being debbie downer earlier and bombing this thread with my own disappointment, well done though.
Non Target 3.4 Econ SA - AM at BB
First Rounds - Don't remember exactly now, close to 10 Super days - 3 Offers - 0
Idem. 3.45, 9-3-0.
Target 3.6 Finance SA - ER at MM ibank, had return offer
First rounds - 26, attended 24 Final rounds - 10, attended 6 Offers - 3 (large AM buyside research, small mezz fund, supermajor oil)
Non-Target 3.6 Finance SA - at F1000
First rounds - 2 Superday's - 1 Offers - 0
Granted I didn't start networking until 1 mo before recruiting but still disappointing. Also, going to a non-target fuckin sucks. Probably working in some other form of corporate finance next year.
Semi-Target 3.3 Business SA - IBD at MM
First Rounds - 15 Final Rounds - 6, attended 4 Offers - 1 BB IBD
Hard year but gotta keep hustlin
Can anyone comment on likelihood of contracts/offers being cancelled? I'm scared shitless I'm going to get a phone call in the spring basically saying "well, times are tough and we changed our mind. Sorry bro!"
For what it's worth, I've already passed all the background checks, signed my contract, and been given a start date/location/etc... I suppose I'm just overly pessimistic.
Anyways, to answer the original question: Target (Canada) 3.0 Engineering Summers - Nothing finance related, all engineering
First Rounds - 3 Final Rounds - 3 Offers - 1 (IBD)
I got off the waitlist, so I feel you man.
Anyway:
School- Target GPA- 3.5 Econ SA- MM Capital Markets
First round- ~10 superday- 5 Offers- 1 (not including return offer)
common theme so far: everyone with an offer had some sort of serious, quantitative real-world summer work experience.
.
School - Target GPA - 3.5 Econ SA - AM (went through FT recruitment later)
First Round - 5 Superday - 2 (including FT recruitment at the shop where i was an SA) Offers - 1 (didn't wait to hear back from other and let them know my decision)
I think this is my first post and I'm not all caught up on all the lingo
School- Semi-Target Public GPA - 3.5
I interned at ESPN Stats & Analysis and an AM division of an IB for my Soph/Junior yrs
First Rounds- 8 Second/Final Rounds- 4 Offers- 1
I'll be a prop trader next Fall and very thankful I escaped the grasp of corporate finance
School- Semi-Target GPA 3.4 Economics/English SA- Corporate Financial Consulting (return offer)
First round-23 superday- 4 Offers- 2 (accepted MM IBD)
I understand this year was extremely tough on recruiting, especially for IBD but I networked my ass off, applied to every single OCR I could find, and knocked on every door until one opened. For those who are still looking, don't give up, you just have to exhaust all options. I ended up at my first choice and if you see from my first round numbers....I struck out ALOT before I could get some people to move me to the next round.
Semi Target 3.8 Finance/Econ SA- Boutique IB
First Round- 6 Superday- 4 Offers- 2 (accepted MM IBD)
School - Non-Target GPA - 3.9 Finance SA - BB IBD in regional office (no return offer)
First Rounds - 11 Superdays - 6, attended 4 Offers - 4 (accepted BB IBD)
Imposter!
Didn't realize another already existed. Better find a more obscure South Park reference.
What's up with all the semi-targets?
What do you guys consider targets???
School - Non-Target GPA - 3.5 Finance SA - None
First Rounds - 1 Superdays - 0 Offers - 0
Applied to over 60 banks now. Shouldn't have burnt my PetsMart bridge this summer. At this point I'm better off collecting empty bottles and recycling them at a nickel each.

Fortunately, I will be starting at a BB in S&T next summer. Was the year of forgone salary and tuition worth it to have a FO job....I'd do it a million and a half times and never blink twice. Best of luck to all you monkeys, if I can get it, anyone can
Your story is so NOT Peter Keating it's ridiculous. Congrats though.

School: Semi-target (private) GPA: 3.4 Finance/Econ SA: Regional M&A MM
First round: 15 Superday: 6 (all MM or elite boutiques, think Lazard/Evercore/Centerview, etc.) Offers: 0
It's always those damn superdays.
Harvard, Wharton, Princeton.
Um... that's not right.....
Guys, if every or almost every BB recruits at your school for multiple FO positions, you're a target school. There about 15-20 of these. We can make a distinction between top-tier targets and others, but there are more than three target schools. Semi-targets are schools where only half or a few BB firms come to campus for just a few positions.
School: State School (Don't think it's a "non-target" because I have never networked my college career) GPA: 3.7 Finance & Accounting SA: Corporate development (don't do FT offers)
First round: 10 IBD Super rounds: 6 Offers: 4 (BB, 2x MM, Elite Boutique)
