German country coverage - what do they do mostly? M&A, LevFin, ECM or DCM?

I was wondering what an IB country coverage group in Germany would be working on predominantly, as in M&A, LevFin, ECM or DCM?

Since the industrial sector is very strong in Germany, and the country is mainly characterised by SMEs, I would expect country coverage groups to be involved much more frequently in some type of deals than others. But I'm not familiar enough with country coverage in general, hence the question here.

Any input is appreciated!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, country coverage groups, including those in Germany, typically work on a variety of deals. However, the specific focus can vary depending on the bank and the market conditions. Here are some insights:

  • M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions): Coverage groups often handle M&A transactions, especially in markets with a strong industrial sector like Germany. M&A deals are common as companies look to consolidate, expand, or divest parts of their business.

  • LevFin (Leveraged Finance): In some banks, LevFin teams handle all the debt modeling rather than asking the coverage team to do it. This can be particularly relevant for high-yield or leveraged buyout transactions.

  • ECM (Equity Capital Markets) and DCM (Debt Capital Markets): These teams are generally involved in preparing materials for equity or debt issuances. In some banks, ECM and DCM teams might be staffed with juniors from the coverage teams. However, pure ECM or DCM roles might not be as prevalent in private equity exits.

Given Germany's strong industrial sector and the prevalence of SMEs (Small and Medium-sized Enterprises), it's likely that country coverage groups in Germany would be heavily involved in M&A activities. They might also engage in LevFin transactions, especially for larger, more complex deals. ECM and DCM activities would also be part of their responsibilities, but perhaps to a lesser extent compared to M&A and LevFin.
