Goldman Global Markets vs KeyBanc vs MS PubFin
Hi all, as the title says, received a SD invite for Goldman's GM team (basically S&T), an offer from Key's IB tech group, and a 2nd round with Morgan Stanley's PubFin team. All offers for Summer Analyst positions.
My goal is ideally IB or any role where I can exit to an innovation-centric platform like VC or entrepreneurship (I'm also considering MBB, if that's a possibility down the road).
All really different offers, and I'm not sure if the name premium from Goldman would be better than an actual IB offer from a decent MM tech group in KeyBanc (advised SumoLogic, Rockwell Automation in M&A, but mostly capital markets) or Morgan Stanley's public finance group, which is also solid.
Would appreciate your thoughts!
Small topics for a sober day, I'll admit.
I know one of the heads of MS pub fin and the guy is an absolute cock and recruits little replicas of himself. People I know at Goldman GM and KBCM are good guys
Goldman GM 100%. You can do good rotations in S&T in credit desks that do fundamental analysis etc. you can lateral to a better IBD role way easier than if you’re coming out of Keybanc IBD
Thanks for your reply! Just curious if you had any thoughts on MS - pubfin seems closer to IB, and I’m unsure what the lateral process might look like to be honest from either opportunity if whatever I select is not a great fit.
Public Finance is crappy. It's IBD but you're not doing LBO's and M&A, it's just a bunch of debt financings for munis and non-profits basically (i'm exaggerating but not really). I'm not sure how the mobility internally to better MS groups works, as I've never interned at MS.
Thanks for the clarification. Just FYI, if this interests you, but some pubfin groups at MS actually do some M&A in the nonprofit healthcare space and have some internal mobility. I’m inferring that GS GM may still have better internal/external lateral opportunities, in your view?
