Goldman (GS) AFG to Classics in One Year?
Is it possible to transfer from Financing to Classics after only one analyst year or does GS only allow mobility after 2 years ?

Off topic but what is AFG and Classics?
AFG is Financing Group which includes the product groups like Levfin, DCM, ECM, PubFin, etc.
Classics is the industry groups (TMT, HC, IND, CRG, etc)
Ask someone within your firm (not your own team)
Previously worked at Goldman. It’s pretty strict to 12 months in current role if you are already in IBD (18 months if not). If you want to switch faster then you will need solid reviews, manager willing to support the move, and people on the other team pushing for you.
Was this for NYC? I was under the impression it was minimum 2 years, so good to hear

I think the general consensus is that GS is famous for its mobility after you finish two years (many people transition groups or even divisions as they transition to associate). With that said, I've seen people make the jump after a year; however, from anecdotes it seems you have to be wary of not coming across poorly to your current team that you want to leave so quickly. Creating a compelling reason to leave a group after less than 12 months and move to a different group at the same firm is challenging, but evidently not impossible.
Super helpful — thank you!
