Goldman Sachs Compliance - 2nd Round

I got through to the 2nd round for a compliance position in NY. The first one interview mainly involved of fit, compliance scenario questions and why GS.

I was just wondering if anyone knew what to expect in a 2nd round interview. I feel this will be the last one and I really want to nail it. Any tips or suggestions?

dabears432I would expect same as first round, albeit with more senior people. Hires always come down to fit, so be sure to demonstrate why you are a good person and fit in.

I had senior VPs interviewing me the last time. He had said the team is small so I dont anticipate anyone like the Head of Compliance to interview me.

I have my second round scheduled for next week. Its with two associates this time, whilst the last was with the two VPs. Any tips? I gather this may be a get to know you portion of the process and how I may fit with the rest of the team but dont want to blow this. Anyone familiar with the GS interview process?

LiLeeIs it just 2 rounds or will they bring you back for a 3rd round
That's complicated: http://hereisthecity.com/2009/12/25/52_interviews_at_goldman_sachs/

Ok, just kidding, sort of. For ugrad recruiting, it's usually pretty quick, maybe another round or two, they might even have already decided. Thing is, until you get the offer, assume you're still interviewing. They're very fussy, and with good reason, about people interviewing for the right job and being a good fit with their coworkers. Once you're in, then you can be "you" so stay sharp. You made it this far so you likely have the qualifications they're looking for, whatever they are, so now it's a matter of them "wanting" you to work there.

Good luck, you got this

Thanks. I think so too. The only issue I'm worried about is background checks. I may have an issue with one recommendation. Do you know if they do the same checks for IB as they do for compliance roles?

Anyway, things are looking good with this one. I sent an email to the VP of compliance and got a response, explaining how he enjoyed the interview too and even mentioned before another confirmation, that I'm going to be brought back for another interview. I spoke to the recruiter and he mentioned this interview will be mainly fit, commercial knowledge and compliance questions again. Similar to the last one so fingers crossed.

Any other tips more then welcome!

There's another round. I have to meet the head of compliance as well.

SmartmoneyWhy are you going to compliance? Can't you get a proper FO role? 1 small mistake at the beginning of your career and your whole life can be screwed...

A mistake? Not sure you know what you're talking about. Thanks for stopping by

maybe he/she wants stability/no career options...

I dont know why you douches are shitting on compliance but its a decent gig. And I'm guessing you're not on GS's radar so you have to hate.

interesting, i've also interviewed with GS for compliance, though at the associate/vp level, you wana pm me to discuss? they havent set me up with any associates though

I dont think a BO role like compliance at GS is necessarily a bad thing. The name factor still allows exit opps to other industries if banking is not your forte/preference. I think I saw a post going where someone in Ops moved into a tech firm by leveraging the brandname of his firm rather than the role at hand.

You both need better things to do if this petty argument is this important to you. Compliance is a good gig that can provide a great legal background and a general oversight of the industry. Yes, it won't get you into IBD on its own but other industries will look at it favorably. As others have said before, there is no FO / BO differentation when you go to other industries as much as their is in Finance.

Good luck with Compliance, it truly is a growing demand within the banks and the compliance teams dealing with regulations are busy each day, all day. Compliance won't die down or go anywhere, it can be a very stable landing spot for short or long term.

and DaisukiDaYo, you have been a dick in this thread from the start, example:

DaisukiDaYoplease make the thread title more descriptive, people will think this is IBD and be horribly disappointed.
No reason to go on and on to make up for your shit self-esteem and 100 hour work week of dicksucking.

Aren't you in compliance ? I thought we talked about this already ? What's ironic is that all the people vehemently defending compliance are, surprisingly, in compliance and probably have a huge chip on their shoulder.

In case you didn't notice, he posted this as GS second rounds and had multiple threads - I'm sure a lot of people were disappointed. Get over it - like I said, if you post something like this in the IBD forums, you'll get people like me posting comparable stuff.

Anyways, to prevent this from getting out of hand - my apologies, and best to you in your endeavors. Please keep us updated - apparently I've united all the compliance people in one place.

Whoever crapped on Compliance...get over yourself. The best Compliance guys can make 150k a year and if you are incredible 400k-500k. Man what a horrible life and you work 45-50 hours a week. I think it is awesome to work for GS regardless of what your position is. You get a job with GS you are set for life. Where else should someone post about back office jobs like compliance? He is applying at an IB, I think it is relevant to post it here.

DaisukiDaYo"Holla back, office?"

I would imagine this would be fit/behavorial with some ethical situations throw in, can't say for sure since I've never interviewed for compliance. I'd take a janitorial position at GS or BS over any FO position just for the prestige factor.

Guy's pretty much a dick. The above sums it all up - don't feed the trolls. And no, I don't work in compliance.

Do you know what is funny? 3 years since this thread was made Compliance is now one of the fastest growing divisions in the bank with high salary increases. OP I hope you got the job and laughing hard to the bank. Just remember that FO, MO, BO job safety depends on you. You have the upper hand and last laugh! Keep cashing them cheques!
