GOT A CALL WITH DIRECTOR AT MORGAN STANLEY TMROW FOR SA26. HELP

I'm so damn nervous, it's a zoom call. How would you guys go about it, and what questions would you ask? How to give a good impression to possibly ask for a referral at the end of the call. How to start the discussion. What are the "right" questions to ask? And most importantly, if the vibe is here, is it wrong to ask for a referral at the end of the call?

I would err on the side of a more soft ask eg “How can I best position my candidacy” towards the end of the interview rather than explicitly asking for the referral. If the vibe is pretty good, you can more explicitly asking if they’re able to flag your resume to HR, if you had applied recently. Sometimes they’ll offer to do it before you ask

Just treat it like a conversation and be curious about the director’s experience. Ask genuine questions you can’t simply find from Googling

  1. Take a quick look at their LinkedIn backgrounds and try to come up with thoughtful, personalized questions. For example:
"Hey, I saw you were a PM at XYZ before your MBA—what inspired your transition into banking?"
  2. Make sure you're clear on your own motivation for pursuing banking and specifically Why Morgan Stanley? That’s a question that often comes up.
  3. Try to bring good energy and come across as curious and positive—better to be someone people want to work with than to sound overly intense or rehearsed.
  4. If it’s a Zoom conversation, keep a list of 7–8 solid questions nearby in case it turns into a rapid-fire style chat. You don’t want to run out of things to ask. And remember—your goal is to get them talking. People usually enjoy sharing their stories, so lean into that and you’ll be in great shape.
