Graduating Undergrad After Two Years of Schooling, Seeking Advice for IB

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some advice in how to break into IB. I am going to be graduating next May with a degree in Finance after only two years of undergrad, I currently have a 3.7 GPA and have prior working experience but none in the banking industry. I am from a non-target university and have no network in the IB space but am eager to get my foot in the door.

My thought processes of graduating so early was that I would be able to prove that I am willing and capable of working long and hard hours at something to help get into IB, and I would be so young that the burnout would have less effect. Trying to turn it into an advantage when it now seems like I screwed myself by not being able to be apart of the recruiting process for internships (as I would have needed to been recruited out of highschool for an internship this summer).

I was wondering what I should try in order to get into IB post graduation, or if I should try to more laterally within an organization to get into IB?  If so, what roles should I try to get into to move into IB eventually?

I graduated from an early college program and finished in 2.5. I purposely delayed my graduation by a semester to get a summer internship at a decent bank then started full time immediately at a different firm. Graduating early isn’t really an advantage, I’d try to maybe go for a masters and try to do internships in high finance. I ended up doing an unpaid my first semester then landed my IB in ny the following.

Agree with the above ^ graduating early is counterintuitive if you don’t have a job lined up. There are a lot of students who think they are studs since they’re part of all the clubs, honors programs, graduating early, etc. but nothing to show for it in terms of job aspects. Internship experience is the biggest factor in getting the finance role you want, all the school stuff is just an accessory. While you were grinding away on your classes other students were networking, working semester internships, and getting tangible experience. Use this free time you now have and concentrate your focus on the right things.
