Help

I have had a few Superdays but no offers. I've gotten notes back from 2 of them and pretty much I was on the cusp. I basically didn't sound confident on one technical which is why I didn't get the offer. What do I do? I feel like every process is over at this point. HELP please

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you need to know to turn things around:

  1. Master the Technicals:
If a lack of confidence on a technical question cost you an offer, it’s time to double down on preparation. Memorize and truly understand all the questions and answers in a comprehensive interview guide. As one WSO thread suggests, if your guide is less than 60 pages, it’s probably not enough. You need to know these inside and out—no shortcuts here. Practice until you can confidently explain every concept, even under pressure.

  2. Mock Interviews with Feedback:
Record yourself during mock interviews and critically evaluate your performance. Ask yourself: Would I hire this person if I were an MD? Pay attention to your tone, body language, and confidence. If possible, get feedback from someone experienced in IB interviews to identify areas for improvement.

  3. Stay Likable and Relatable:
Superdays are not just about technicals—they’re about making your interviewer want to work with you for 100 hours a week. Focus on building rapport by showing genuine interest in your interviewer’s passions and hobbies. As one WSO user noted, immersing yourself in their interests can make you more memorable and likable.

  4. Avoid Overconfidence or Complacency:
A common mistake in Superdays is getting too comfortable after a few interviews. Stay sharp and maintain a balance between confidence and humility. Nervous energy can actually work in your favor, as it shows you care about the opportunity.

  5. Leverage Feedback:
You’ve already received valuable feedback from your previous Superdays. Use it to refine your approach. For example, if confidence on technicals was an issue, focus on practicing those areas until they become second nature.

  6. Don’t Give Up:
Recruiting might feel over, but it’s not. Keep networking and reaching out to your contacts. Some firms may still have openings or accelerated processes. Additionally, stay in touch with your first-round interviewers—they can often become advocates for you in future processes.

  7. Focus on Fit:
If you’re consistently making it to Superdays but not getting offers, it might come down to fit. Reflect on how you present yourself and whether you’re aligning with the firm’s culture. Small adjustments in how you communicate your story and enthusiasm for the role can make a big difference.

Remember, Superdays typically have a 30-60% offer rate, so being on the cusp means you’re close. With targeted preparation and persistence, you can turn things around. Good luck!
