Help I’m falling into a career destroying opportunity

Long story...

Two years ago, I was recruited by a department head during the internship to build a new division within a bank.

He oversold the opportunity during the meeting and gave a fake live date (at first, he said it would launch in half a year, it's still pending for more than a year now, and we are nowhere close to launching)

My motivation is to capture the scalability/ upward movement of the platform and work on transactions... However, we have not touched any single transaction yet.

He's also informing me he doesn't see the future fit given the work is not what they are looking for (The main reason is that he is always asking me to lead a project that no one has experience with + limited proper guidance and resources and I have to figure out every small step by myself)

I can't entirely agree with him, and my work is always highly valued by other departments/ external parties from the feedback I saw within the email chain

Now the project is likely to fail. I feel like I have wasted two years here, and I'm no longer applicable for the graduate scheme... What should I do?

Another problem is that this project deemed to be highly confidential, and the department we work with have a completely different purpose/ product/ structure so the skill is not transferable

And I simply can’t use these business development skill to get into other group (although I have a strong knowledge in the product/ strategy we are currently building)
