Help me choose a college
I am a business journalist seeking an Investment banking job, with an average GPA of 3.4 for my undergrad. I am nothing but amazed by the finance world and the work that they do. Hence i came to a realization that i can apply my research skills at an investment Banking job. My target school is columbia for MA economics, but also plan to apply at northeastern, rochester and syracuse for msc finance
Oh man, you're in for a rude awakening.
Master programs in US with solid IB placements are MIT / Vandy/Princeton/Yale/Columbia. A lot of other ones are just cash cows.
Are there admissions stats for these programs? Curious as to what the placement rate is for each.
Are these programs all just pay for a degree types?
Went to one of these schools - academic material is absolutely challenging even though grades may not matter as much. Now at a top BB but can’t say there were many of us interested/ended up in IB
I highly suggest doing an MSc in finance in the UK or Europe, not in the USA. I say this as an American who got an undergrad in the USA but works in I banking in London.
MSc programs are pretty much a joke for ib recruiting in the USA. Reputable banks only recruit from undergrad and MBAs.
In contrast, good MSc programs in Europe are specifically targeted by ib along with your top undergrad schools. The reason is that in europe/uk, it is very common for a students to do an MSc program right after undergrad rather than a two year MBA. You see some graduates from top MBAs in London, but ultimately the MBA isn't anywhere near as important for career progression as in the USA.
MSc Programs I recommend include Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, LBS, HEC, ESSEC, Bocconi, and ESCP.
You get an "advanced" degree for the network. Do not waste the money trying to "learn".
Sounds like paying for a degree.
