Help with backstabbing and sneaky Analyst

I'm working with this Analyst and their work is terrible. It's clear they do not care about the job and have lost whatever motivation they did have. Any work they do takes extremely long and is always unchecked / full of mistakes.

In addition to this, I learned they were throwing me under the bus to the MD on the deal, saying I am useless / not doing anything / not giving any guidance to them, etc, and the MD believed them. They also said the same to the staffer and I think even told HR. The other more senior Associate on the project (there's no one else between us and the MD) told me the MD thought I was doing nothing, but said he stood up for me, telling them that I'm the one who's actually picking up a lot of the Analyst's work.

The MD has expressed frustration with the project's progress and I've told him the issue, but he basically didn't believe me (though this was before he spoke to the other Associate).

We have a new first year Analyst on the deal who's also complained to us that the other Analyst isn't doing anything. Both of us (Associates) have flagged it to the staffer multiple times (other Associate also got them destaffed from something that was about to start) and we spoke to the MD again and I think we're aligned now, but despite this, I feel like my reputation has been tarnished. I'm not sure everyone fully believes us still, despite it being completely clear to everyone who's actually on the project and not sure what else I can do.

Incredibly shitty situation. First, your bank made the extreme fuck-up of hiring someone shitty. Second, and most importantly, the MD believed this new analyst instead of going straight to you and tell you the analyst was talking shit. HR is full of dimwits so they are expected to make mistakes all the time, but your MD is actually expected to at least not be retarded. This is something you can't count on, your MD is probably retarded and never learned any leadership skills throughout his career. I would second the opinion of the first poster: get the fuck out of there.

I think the most concerning issue here is the fact that your MD chose to believe an unproven analyst over you. This wouldn’t happen in my group as seniority is respected, especially among the junior ranks. It speaks negatively about your MD’s perception of your work ethic and it’s not a good look. I don’t know all the facts, but if you are in fact good at your job and your MD made up his mind before hearing your side of the story, this is not the right place for you. Again, the analyst throwing you under the bus is an irrelevant detail as it relates to bigger picture here.
