Current Houston analyst here:

TLDR: You need a personal vehicle to enjoy houston fully and areas you should consider are: Allen parkway / Buffalo bayou park, River oaks, the heights and Memorial park.

First and foremost, will you have a car / vehicle? Houston is extremely limited in regards to public transportation so you will be severely limited without a personal vehicle.

Secondly, areas like Allen parkway / buffalo bayou park, river oaks, the heights and memorial park are the best areas IMO. Abundance of nature / parks, plenty of food options, lots of bars, gyms, etc.

I’d personally avoid Midtown. It’s a lot of noise, homeless people, trash and truthfully is overpriced just because there are a lot of bars. Sure, it’s nice being able to walk to a bar and yes it’s close to downtown (as is everywhere I listed in the above paragraph) but other areas like the heights and Washington have good going out scenes as well.

Don’t move downtown, just don’t. There isn’t much to do (relative to other areas), you will be leaving downtown for pretty much anything u need (groceries, dry cleaning, gym, etc.), there are a ton of homeless people and the premium you’re paying just to be a 5-10 minute walk from the office isn’t worth it.

Cheers

I’m not even in Houston but I just want to say that I hate Houston and that it’s shit.

You’re welcome. I will be enjoying my good tier 1 city that’s not nyc. -person who spent 18 years in houston
