How do full-time interviews differ from summer analyst interviews?
Title speaks for itself. How do full-time investment banking analyst interviews differ from the summer analyst interviews? Are they pretty much the same with similar behaviorals & technicals? Do they expect something more from you when you recruit for full time?
Thanks for the help!
Bump!
Bump. I’m scared for that eventual day
Depending on the bank it can range from similar technicals, to harder technicals (still from the guide), to paper lbo's. I've also heard of some banks doing modeling tests but havent experienced that myself.
For modeling tests/paper lbos, would this be for experienced analysts or also for incoming first year analysts
I think it really depends on 1) the location 2) the bank 3) the team 4) your experience
From my personal experience, it did not differ that much, at some place they even told me they would not challenge me on technicals since I already had 1 year of internship experience
Gotcha, thanks for the insight! Appreciate it
Technicals will always be harder and expect calls from seniors more / longer, I remember having calls with MDs / PE partners for 1-1.5 hrs and they dug thru every detail of my life, but just to get to know me.
Wow. Really different from the 20-30 minute networking calls I've had. Also how do you find ft positions? Just job boards or do head hunters reach out
Not for networking calls those were, but after the superday / during the superday time for some reason they would reach out and do these, it was mostly for fit I'm thinking and for investing roles just wanted to see how you think
1) job boards so you know who is hiring, but then reach out to people in the company
2) you have already networked and they tell you about hiring going on before it is even posted
I just went through this last year so I believe I can provide some insight. Every bank is different. Some banks I actually found to be more behavioral heavy. One middle market gave me a 3 statement financial modeling exam. One thing that I did notice though is that there were a lot more rounds of interviews for a full time position. You seem to meet all or most of the team. One firm made me do 13 different phone calls! For the group I ended up joining, I talked to every person in my 8 person team. Just something to keep in mind. Don’t stress too much about technicals imo as I saw them to be on par with summer internship technicals.
SB’ed super insightful thanks so much! How did you end up getting these interviews? Was it mainly just job boards or was there a head hunter involved?
