How do you learn about industries?
Landed an SA gig. How do I learn about different coverage groups and the drivers, business models, etc. for an industry? essentially materials that are deeper than wsj and other news sources - something like industry primers but not sure where to get my hands on those
Congrats. Analyst/equity research reports are usually a good resource. Read through a couple for the big names in the industry/sector you’re interested in (e.g., J&J, Pfizer, and Eli Lily for pharma). They vary in content and format, but usually include an overview of the company and its products, industry dynamics, valuation drivers, etc. If you have a Charles Schwab account (or other brokerage account), you should be able to access them there.
Otherwise, consulting companies (e.g., McKinsey, Bain, BCG, etc.) usually publish industry white papers/outlooks/POVs that are pretty helpful.
thank you!
Industry primers are super helpful. Reading through SEC filings are great as well
