How is Management Leadership For Tomorrow (MLT) for Undergrad Banking?
I know that MLT is really good for their MBA program, but I recently applied as a sophomore for their finance program and I am curious to know if it is on par with SEO. I know SEO pretty much guarantees interviews with top banks, wondering if it is the same as MLT? If anyone has experience with MLT finance I would appreciate hearing!
Both great but SEO is more plugged into the finance industry which is why I would give it an edge for banking/PE specifically. The resources and mentorship is near identical though so preparation shouldn’t differ.
Would you say getting into MLT also guarantees interviews like SEO?
I was in both MLT and SEO. As mentioned, SEO is more finance focused and gets you exposed to way more firms. MLT gets you some exposure to finance but they are partnered with so many other types of industries too. In terms of interviews, they both secure you interviews with their partners.
For your reference, I did both. I also did the classic BB then MF over my sophomore and junior summers. Would agree with above comments in that SEO is more “plugged in” and lists certain opportunities not available for anyone else, just on its portal.
I preferred SEO, because the “pre-internship work” or whatever they call it now is actually pretty useful. It steps up 2nd semester and the ~week long training is definitely worth it before your internship. Gets you up in the morning and just in the right mindset to crush your internship. In the event that an internship is your first “office job,” it also quells some nervousness and fears.
A couple other things about SEO: I got the sense they had a fairly good relationship with the BB I was at since during week 1 of my internship, the BB had me on a listserv with other SEO members, giving us access to more resources. Secondly, if you go to a FT banking program, SEO has a solid “alternative investments” program for banking analysts and also an “alumni portal” with associate level opportunities - probably not what you’re looking for in terms of an on-cycle equivalent, but still some more esoteric opps and cool public markets stuff.
MLT starts a little later into one’s college career and is certainly useful, maybe just a little less practical in terms of timelines. MLT is though slightly more broad IMO. I know SEO has SEO law, etc., but MLT has connections at some tech firms so if you’re a Comp Sci major it could be something worth looking into (if you want to go the PM route). But again, due to the early recruiting timelines of internships, some of the utility of MLT is decreased if you’re already a part of SEO. Furthermore some of the work does seem to be similar to “busy work” if you’re at a target / semi and have good on campus resources. But at the end of the day it’s not a bad thing to have on your resume.
The staff at both programs are super helpful and kind, so I would generally say join both if you have the time and you can. You can always leave the programs at the end of the day and just keep in touch with your coach.
