How is Yale for IB recruiting?

Incoming transfer student (athlete, from good athletics school but realized I wasn't going pro). How does Yale place into IB compared to peers? Yes, obviously they do well, but I mean in comparison to HPSM/Wharton, and if there are any banks with particularly large Yale alumni present.

Aware that most things are feasible, but that breakdown of PE firms by alumni showed Yale relatively under represented, so I'm just looking for info/more details (I know that's a v flawed proxy, but I'd like to have a rough idea of what I'm looking at beforehand)

Didn't know if there were any banks with particularly close relationships :) seems like a reasonable question :)

Funniest

Not good. During the last decade, only 6 - 8 people landed in IB (Middle Market outside NY, because it's quite non-target so recruiting for NY IB it's close to impossible + and those who made it, did so only because they applied as diversity leaders and transgender). My advice: As soon as you step into Yale i.e 1st week, don't lose more time and start the grind. Reach out to those 6 - 8 alumni asking for internships in their shops (Wyoming, Detroit, Albuquerque, etc.) - imo I don't think they have much voice in their team because they're from Yale so no way they're in FO, BO at best (not Compliance, because Compliance usually is filled by smarter people), but still worth trying.

As reaching out to alumni is worthless (as pointed out in the previous last sentence), start cold calling and sending emails like crazy, if you manage to send around 200 emails, you may get, realistically, 3 - 5 replies back (2 of those may reply with "what's Yale"? but the other 3 may accept only because they can't wait to try on someone else the 48 Rules of Power). Even if you're incredibly smart and determined, the university name it's extremely important for bankers so they will hesitate to accept a coffee with someone from a no-name school because it puts their reputation at risk, clients may move to banks that only go to coffee meetings with Harvard students, and also, their girlfriends will tell them that they're weird and low-class.

But don't worry, you're not lost (yet), if you're determined, grind enough, and have a little luck, you may land in a well-respected LMM shop straight after your undergrad (assuming you have 2 or 3 relevant internships and a 4.0 GPA). Otherwise, you could go into Audit (in India, because you have no shot in any Big 4 in the US) and afterward go for an MBA at Harvard (the only target in the world) and you could make it in IB.

I wish you luck, man. The place where you are is extremely unlucky, but I hope you will make things work out. Stay strong and never regret your decision, life has only lessons.

Second this. I got offered Yale with full scholarship but opted out to go with Illinois. Since then I've never looked back and I couldn't be happier with my decision.

At Yale now, going to a BB this summer, feel free to PM me!

You see, that's what I'm talking about OP. He asks for PM when he is in anonymity.

That's everything you need to know about Yale.
