Well being that I am still a student I would like a little insight on the work/life balance as an intern so I can plan accordingly for my upcoming summer. I have things I need to take care of outside of work and would like to get a grip on how I will be able to do so.

We take it much easier on summer analysts than analysts actually on the desk. We don't want to burn you out before you accept an offer.

That said, you should be striving to work the same hours as the analysts to win them over and get an accurate viewpoint of what the job entails. I would plan to work / be in office from 8:30am - 11:30pm Mon-Thurs, and 8:30am - 6:30pm on Fridays. That's 70 hours give or take + occasional weekend work but that's gone away in recent intern classes (you're welcome)

Thanks for letting us know. I have a question: what hours do you think associates should be striving to work? I'm curious about how analysts compare with associates.

9am to 2 pm Mon through Thursday

9 am to 9 pm Friday

Saturday and Sunday 1-2 hours each day or so.

Worked at a BB for my SA. Was in a group with a lot of deal flow, so take that in mind, but I worked from around 8:30 to around midnight / 2AM.

Don’t know why you’re getting clowned, this is a perfectly valid question. The idea that you should go into a job and not inquire about work life balance is absolutely fucking stupid. Some of these hardos on this forum are insane.

It’s really group dependent. As a SA, you’re not gonna be all that useful because you don’t know shit about shit so some teams won’t see a point in keeping you around all day. There were a few times where I stayed late just to kinda be in the office for moral support and to show that I had a good attitude, but I left around 6pm on a lot of days. I think people genuinely got concerned if the SAs were working late consistently. Personally, now that I’m on the other side of the equation as a FT analyst, I would probably encourage the SAs to leave early. YMMV tho, I knew some people in other groups who were working really intense hours.
