How should I prepare as a Veteran URM heading to HYP

I just got out the marines after 5 years, and I am interested in IB. I just don’t know how to prepare for technicals as I’m starting my freshman year this fall. I am also coming as a 22 years old freshman majoring in international affairs, not sure if this effects my outcomes.

So far I have attended some banks veteran programs that aren’t anything other than an introduction to their banks, and I have begun talking to students and alumni that work in IBD.

Congrats! You’re in a little different boat than a lot of vets who transition to an MBA program. Don’t overthink it. Most freshman will not be any further ahead than you. So just do what they all do—join the finance clubs, etc. Those clubs will prep you, know the timelines, etc. The one thing you’ll want to look into is any special veteran / URM programs that banks have. For example there was just a thread on evercore veteran freshman day I believe. Banks will love that you’re a vet. Good luck and congrats again!

You are in a great spot, and oddly enough gives you more optionality than being a MBA veteran for a future finance career.

Run the ball with standard IB clubs/prep, and try to network with veterans who are almost always willing to help if you’ve prepped.

Look into enlisted exfil, former enlisted vets in IB is even a smaller crew, and will be very helpful to network with.

Feel free to DM and can help in more specific ways.
