How to contact IBD MD's

Hello WSO,

I just finished my 1st year at a target university in Canada and I have a decent relationship with two MD’s. One at Canadian MB and one at the Toronto office of a BB. I have built this relationship playing sports with their kids. I would say that they know who I am, I have talked to them a bunch but never about IB or finance. I believe that they think I am a good kid.

How should I approach them for a coffee chat? Are they too busy to meet for coffee? Or should I directly approach them to help me with the recruiting process? What is the best way to go about better building a relationship to help them get a SA 2020 job or a SA 2021 job?

Secondly any insight on if second year summer to work in the IBD is too early? Would you recommend going into PE or AM in the second summer? Or the earlier the better for SA IBD ?

This would be to work in IBD in Canada.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You already have a warm lead. Just approach it as a curious and you want to learn. Ask for specifically what you want. "I would like to learn more about your firm and the industry would you have time to talk for 20 minutes" If they are too busy they probably will get you in contact with someone else.

Second summer - I don't know as much about this and cant give you a good answer.
