How to follow up with a call after getting no email response?
Have emailed (2-3) times to people (alum and non alum) that have not responded. I know that after this period it's recommended to call instead of emailing more. Not exactly sure how to proceed. Do I call the main number, explain my case and hope to get transferred over to them?
bump
I’m still a college student so take this for what it’s worth but I would never call an analyst/associate (esp non-alums I have no connections to) without confirming the call with them beforehand. Junior bankers are incredibly busy and have a lot more to worry about than responding to an undergrad’s call at a random, unannounced time. If I was the analyst on the other end, it would definitely annoy me and leave a bad impression.
Please do not call that would be beyond creepy and let’s be honest I probably wouldn’t answer. Also do not email more than twice, they aren’t going to respond. If they don’t answer that means they don’t want to talk to you so move on to the next person.
I've emailed many people more than twice and each of them "appreciated the persistence" so not sure if that's the best advice. Regarding calling, all the forum guides (WSO+M&I) said if you don't get a response by 2-3 emails, give them a call, so that's why I was asking.
Is that for networking or following up after an interview?
Networking.
I wouldn't call, that would be a step too far. But feel free to keep emailing them, as long as you're leaving a couple weeks between emails, aren't annoying and aren't making spelling mistakes people will reply eventually. If and when they do reply, I would give them a time to chat as soon as you can, because people typically reply when they're free
I would also check your wording to make sure your'e not turning them off, aren't being demanding, etc. You're probably not and it's most likely they are simply busy but check to make sure you sound very positive and appreciative of any help they might provide. (I only mention this because I've received some that appear more demanding than anything - which never got a reply)
