How to hand off an internship I’m reneging on

I’m a rising junior who accepted a 2025 offer at a known MM bank that I’m going to reneg on for a buy-side offer.
I have a friend who would want the internship and is qualified, however, I’m not sure how to go about reneging to give him the best shot possible.
Should I recommend he reach out to “network” prior to my reneg to boost his chances or is there another way?

Edit - He goes to a different school and we have nothing in common on our resume and this bank has finished its recruiting cycle

From my understanding they probably have a “waitlist” of other applicants who barely missed the cut and will hand it off to the next guy in line.

Funniest

lol what a high opinion of yourself you have if you think you can just fix internships for people when you yourself haven't even completed one

Controversial

you sound like a fucking loser who works at some shit LMM in the middle of nowhere if you’re that mad about a college kid trying to help out his friend

Kudos for wanting to be a good friend. Lots of finance hardos who would lean more towards fucking over friends to get ahead. But a bit naive to think this could work
