How to spend 1 year off?

Hi All,

Recently finished my summer internship at a MM shop in MCOL city, really enjoyed the experience, and was fortunate enough to receive a return offer. However, I've already graduated from university, so I now have roughly a year off before starting full-time.

I'm honestly a bit conflicted about how to approach this time. On one hand, I'm pretty burnt out from years of internships, networking, and recruiting, and part of me just wants to take a break before starting what I know will be a demanding career. On the other hand, the thought of having an entire year without making any meaningful progress professionally makes me feel like I'm wasting valuable time, especially when most of my peers are already working full-time.

I've considered recruiting for off-cycle internships or other opportunities to fill the gap, but the idea of going through another recruiting cycle sounds exhausting, particularly when I already have a full-time offer lined up.

For anyone who's been in a similar position, how did you approach an extended break before starting full-time? Did you find it worthwhile to pursue additional work experience, or do you wish you'd taken advantage of the time off while you still had the opportunity?

I recognize that this is a fortunate position to be in, but I'm struggling to find a balance between wanting to be productive and actually allowing myself to enjoy the time off.
