How's OCR at Amherst/Williams?

I'd like to know what OCR for IB and PE is like at these schools (which firms recruit + approximately how many kids they take in). Also, are they over represented at any particular place?

Didn’t go to either, but I worked at top BB and there was a significant Williams presence. Almost as many people from Williams as the Ivies. From what I gathered, their presence is pretty strong across the street. Additionally, there seems to be an unusual number of very successful hedge fund managers that went to Williams for their undergrad. Can’t speak to Amherst. Never met anyone from there.

I interned with someone from Amherst at a BB, and she had basically weekly lunches/coffee chats/dinners etc., with other Amherst alumni at the firm. From what she told me, OCR is very strong at her school. From networking with other Amherst people, it's a strong target and I was told of at least one story of going to PE out of school. I won't say that is particularly common, but it is definitely a target rom what she told me of placements across the street.

Now obviously I didn't go there, as you can imagine, and this is all second hand but I'm decently jelly of those benefits as a non-target lol....

Re: Amherst

OCR is ok — GS comes, Qatalyst was holding an info session last time I was on campus. Some others also have on campus info sessions but a lot of firms don’t come (they just have handshake portal applications)

Most people network with alums to get into banks tho. Alums are generally super responsive and you can find at least a handful at pretty much any bank on the street so getting an IB gig isn’t too hard if you have a solid GPA, experience, etc and network properly

Plenty of people also go into GE, buyout PE once they graduate also

Thank you for the reply. How many students attend these info sessions? I heard that at Brown, only 9 students attended a Centerview info session. How does the interest for IB at Amherst stack up against Brown?

It's been years since I've been in school, but I went to a non Amherst/Williams LAC. In general my opinion is that OCR at schools like Amherst/Williams is good not amazing, and that's not because the schools don't place really well, it's more just, the school are small and doing official OCR often times isn't worth it for companies. Big banks can do OCR for various functions at larger state schools, whereas at Amherst/Williams the class size is only 400/500 per class.

With that being said, as an above poster stated, the placement is very strong across banks and consulting firms. You might have to do a little more legwork in terms of networking, but both schools are very well represented. It's unlikely you'll come across a company where there are no alumni. Both schools are strong targets at most places. You'll be completely fine if you go/are going to either of these schools.
