HR problem URGENT
I completed my summer internship at a french bank yesterday and ran into a major problem on the last day of my internship.
Long story short: I was sick from a week before my last day, and I informed the team that I could not go into the office. I managed to visit the clinic and get a sick leave note, but the doctor said I can only get notes from the day I visited, not the days before.
After visiting the office on the last day, I was contacted by HR to submit medical certificates of other days. With too much hesitation, I thought it was simply for exiting record purposes therefore I forged my original sick leave note with a changed date.
i was contacted short later as I was exposed, and they called me into the office to hold a meeting with the HR where I confessed what I done. They told me they will get back to me after discussing with the "management committee".
I am s***ing my pants right now as I have no clue what the consequences would be. I am currently out of the company as my contract ended yesterday.
Will I be outcasted in the industry for good? I'm still in college sophomore year and I am hoping that they will just let this slide with salary deduction for the days I was absent.
Does anyone know what I should expect in this scenario? I did plead for mercy by mentioning that I still have a long future ahead and I had no bad intentions.
Any practical advice would be helpful as I am patiently waiting for the HR to get back to me.
Can you not get a document from the doctors saying when you entered and when you were discharged? If you can do that and just say you misunderstood what HR meant.
Hi I have already admited to my fault, once I submitted the second "fraud" one that I made, they contacted the doctor and confirmed that I only visited on one day not the other day. Now they just told me to wait for the decision of the "management comittee"...
Oh okay. But I mean if you were sick like is it common practice to have to bring in a note like school? But ya you probably should've just told them you were sick for however long days and could only get to the clinic on a certain day. It would be weird for them to force you to come into work if you were sick. But ya you'll be fine for like the rest of the industry I think but I would say you definitely are not getting a return offer. But who knows! This bank sounds insane I've never heard of employers contacting doctors.
First of all, what you did was insanely stupid. What the hell ?!
Second of all, in all my life I have never been asked to provide a medical certificate to miss work (granted, I worked almost full time even when sick in most cases but when had to miss work no one asked me for proof ever).
To be honest, this one is on you. You should just have told them you went to the doctor late, there wouldn’t have been any issue. Falsifying doc can have grave consequences in finance, if you did that for a deal you could go to jail.
