IB / General Management

Hi all,

I am currently a rising senior at an HYPS school, and after my junior year (this summer) I took an internship at GS/MS/JPM in one of the bank's better groups, think TMT/M&A/Sponsors for the bank I worked at (I know the groups are different at different banks, but you understand).

Anyway, I'm a History major at school, and as such, I've never had any experiences with finance at all, so this internship was my first time working in finance at all. I know I'm interested in business, but I didn't like finance at all. I did receive a returning offer, but I'm wondering about whether general management rotational programs exist for fortune 100/50 organizations (I've only ever heard of finance rotations, which I'm not interested in). My school career services
office pretty much just sends people into finance and consulting, so I really don't know what opportunities are available. So my question is....should I sign my offer? Should I look for general management rotations? Do these programs even exist? If yes, what is the experience like? Obviously the pay would be significantly lower than in banking, but what kind of salary would be fair for someone in my position? Thanks a ton!

What do you picture as a "General Management" program?

Thinking about Fortune 100 programs: GE's Commercial Leadership Program (separate from their FLDP), Johnson Controls LEM, etc... those are the ones I would think you're speaking about.

General rotations are a great start to any career (especially outside of finance). Your experience will depend on the project scope certain companies allocate to your managers, this can vary widely, but overall any "general management" program is good to expose candidates to a wide variety of tasks within the time you are there.
