If you didn't get an offer for Investment banking right after you graduated can you still apply for their graduate role more than a year after you graduated even if on their requirement it asked for a specific graduation date?
If you didn't get an offer for Investment banking right after you graduated can you still apply for their graduate role more than a year after you graduated even if on their requirement it asked for a specific graduation date? Currently I am applying for the 2024 graduate role but I graduated mid 2022 so it been over a year since I graduated at the moment and would be 2 years since I graduate when the graduate role start. Most of the IB/Finance graduate role asked for a specific graduation year which I am already outside of currently. Can I still apply?
How do people who haven't got a IB job after they graduate move into IB later on their careers?
It’s mostly up to the bank and the HR. So it’s still worth the shot, in the worst case you’ll get rejected again or just won’t get a reply…
When it comes to getting into IB, many people often start in a smaller bank or a related field where they are way more competitive; they work their *ss off, and a few years down the road, their accumulated experience may become attractive for BB/EB.
Hope I could help!
Yes, you can apply to those roles, but I can't say I've ever seen someone out of school for more than a year get those. While it is possible, those roles are primarily designed to source current students vs. candidates with some professional experience.
The reality is that not everyone gets into banking right out of the gate. Hell, I didn't. You can break in later, but it's typically going to involve a lot of planning, persistence, patience, and perspiration to get there. Without knowing more about your situation, I would give it one more year of intense networking and applying to any and all off-cycle opportunities before shifting focus to considering business school. There's a lot that goes into that decision, but if you really want to get into banking, getting your MBA from a top school is a much more straightforward path. Even if that doesn't pan out, you'll still have lots of opportunities and better earnings potential as a result (provided you aren't financing 100% with student loans, that's a different story).
The off-cycle finance internship also have a expected graduation date that is out of my graduation year.
I am thinking of doing a MSc Finance at a top 5 UK university later down the line once I get at least 2 years professional experience to move to BB/EB.
