im in a rut any tips on how to get out
hey guys, i am freshman in the last few months have been tough on me I used to workout, study well and have the discipline to do a lot of things. In the past couple of months every thing went downhill, I stopped working out i am barley passing my classes and i just dont have the motivation to do anything at all and to make things worse because of my bad diet i am starting to have liver problems ik covid have played a big part in this but man I dont feel like i have a purpose anymore any tips to get out of this rut?
Do you have depression? Don't think this is the right place to get help, does your school have mental health services?
idts man i just dont have any motivation to do the stuff i used to do, i am not sad/depressed person i am just unmotivated
i am also pretty unmotivated and I am in the work force, I feel ya lmfao
This also happened to me in freshmen spring and I dont think it is uncommon for people; you are very laser focused in your fall to a point where you are burned out by the intensity and the sudden change to college.
I think best thing to do is:
1. get help as you probably have bad burnout symptoms / depression. Good to talk to your parents if they are supportive, or a counsellor in general
2. think of taking leave of absence after this semester and go for something totally new, like internships in non-profit, startup, finance, or just working in a short-term job
3. take things slow and dont try to pressure yourself too much; maybe try meditation as usually burnout symptoms happen due to constant pressure of work
Hope it all goes well man. I was also burned out to a point where I didn't care at all for grades and watched youtube all day. Just remember it's okay to make mistakes and forgive yourself, and take things slow today.
Hey man,
I'm a first year too and I've also felt less motivated to do anything. I started out very well in September, powering through all my classes, but now I feel like everything is falling apart. It really sucks that we have to start our first year of college like this. Try talking to some old friends from high school or from college. The constant isolation due to COVID might be what is causing you feel this unmotivated. We are social animals, after all.
Try to start working out again. I started lifting just a couple weeks ago and I've already started to feel better and more energized. Try eating and sleeping better, too. Don't underestimate how much happiness a physically and socially healthy lifestyle can bring you.
Try to enjoy what you are learning, as hard as that may sound. Put yourself in the shoes of someone who thinks that what you're learning is their favorite subject. If you're learning math, try to find what's fascinating about numbers. If you're learning bio, try to be fascinated with the nature of life or some shit like that.
Finally, if nothing else works out, try dropping or withdrawing from your most difficult class, depending on what your university allows. Save the class for a future semester when we are back in person and you have peers to work with. It might not be worth suffering through such a class in this current environment.
thanks a lot man i am certainly relieved to know i am not alone. I wish you all the best
A lot of schools offer counseling services for either free or really cheap. For my school it’s $20 a session. Being able to talk about these things once or twice a month with a professional has really helped me out. It might be worth it to check out if your school has something similar.
